PCTales, Episode 3

They’ve been away for awhile, but Freedom Force is back in action with an all new episode of Patriot City Tales brought to you by the EZscript duo team of John Jr. and Benton Grey. With 6 new missions in stow, what will you be facing this episode?

  1. Order had a life before he was forcefully merged with Law and joined the Freedom Force team. When someone from his past winds up in trouble, Law and Order rush in to save the day… and discover something shocking along the way.
  2. Red moon is back and the young Freedom Forcers discover exactly who she is and why she’s so angry.
  3. Mentor finally decides to leave the base with Microwave following closely behind him. After receiving a call telling the duo to head into Patriot City park, they discover a series of things that shouldn’t be possible! What does it mean, heroes? What does it all mean?
  4. After Ant’s tricky adventure with El Diablo ended with him in a state of unconsciousness, he has something to prove. Gathering a team together to head into the base of Deja Vu to save Minute Man should do the trick just fine.
  5. After saving his friend from danger, The Ant teams up with the southern belle, Alchemiss, to patrol the city after receiving a call from the police. What they discover is the beginning of a beautiful friendship and new enemies that threaten to end it just as quickly.
  6. Overwhelmed by his sudden burst of popularity and eagerness to head into the field, The Ant takes some time to himself by visiting the Patriot City Museum… but such is a life of hero that trouble finds him wherever he goes.

PCTales Episode 2: Preview

How long can a person wait before they want to see some of the characters they came to enjoy back in action? Well, in the case of Freedom Force, players spent quite a long time waiting for them to jump back into the fray after their FFVTTR adventures. Enter: Patriot City Tales — a community collaboration mod that attempts to bridge the gap between FF1 and FFvTTR. While it may not be the expansion of the main story that everyone wanted, the middle area between both games allows for the community to flesh out and expand the Freedom Force universe in ways the creators of the game may not have imagined.

PCTales Minor Update…

Because some of you told him The Bard/Rogue mission (3) in PCTales was a little too difficult, Benton has gotten around to making it easier. In accordance with this change, the mod has been re-uploaded for future players; however, if you don’t want to re-download the whole thing again, you can just grab the fix from here. Enjoy!

Keep in mind, if you downloaded the mod and played it, give us some feedback either here on the blog or at the forums. We’d also love to hear your ideas if you’re interested in seeing this project continue!

Update: The small fix is no longer available to players that downloaded the initial mod before August 30th.

Patriot City Tales

So, just to give a little backdrop on this idea, a year or so ago (around the time I was finishing up my Exiles mod or beginning Ultimate Trio), I figured that maybe I should show a little love for the Freedom Force gang and expand their adventures a little more. Initially, it was just going to be me setting up a bunch of stories and hoping others would expand on the idea later. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it didn’t pan out that way because I hit an intense burnout, which still lasts to this day.

Around the time I released Ultimate Trio for the first time, I noted that I had written a mission outline or two in my online mod folder and shared it with a few people. I didn’t have any immediate plans to get started, but talking with Benton obviously pushed the idea up a few days… weeks… months… years. Let’s just say his enthusiasm helped to get the project off the ground despite my burnout status and my now intense hatred of python coding. And within a week’s time, I think I had the first mission up and ready along with a nearly completed mod folder.

Finished with my initial part, I sent everything but the bathroom sink off to Benton so that he could test and add whatever he needed to it. After getting back some playtesting reports, I did my minor fixes, changed some code and lines of dialogue, and I was done. A month or two later, Benton finished and sent off his two missions and Episode 1 was complete, minus some minor setbacks that GogglesPizanno helped to solve.

Now, with the brief history of this project out of the way, FRP2 presents… Patriot City Tales: Episode 1! With work from Benton and myself, and other members of the community, episode 1 picks up in the middle of Freedom Force and Freedom Force vs. The Third reich (a midquel, if you will) with the team inactive. When El Diablo notices trouble brewing in the city, he’s determined to get the team back together, especially when he’s suspicious of one of their own. However, he’s not the only one with that idea when Man O’ War, Sea Urchin, and The Bard find villains up to no good in different parts of the city.

So, what are you waiting for? Go download and play PCTales today!
