Because this is something I’m interested in given my own aspirations (see: Ultimate Trio & Necronomica), I decided to link to a tough love post by Gail Simone, who is one of the best writers in the industry. I know some of you guys have similar interests, so this MAY help you decide whether or not this is something you should be chasing after yourself as an artist or a writer.
When I am talking to people about breaking in, I am honest, but I try to be kind, and polite, and patient. I try to find positive things to say. The problem is, and I’m sure everyone who has reviewed a portfolio knows what I’m saying, that that’s not what someone who REALLY wants to break in and has the stuff to make it happen needs to hear. They need to hear the truth. So, I’m going to give some truth tonight. A lot of this, you should already know. I am not going to talk about craft or format or anything like that. That material is out there. If you want to do this right, find it, study it, buy the books, do the research. I’m going to assume for this discussion that you have the baseline talent level required to make it in. I’m also assuming for this discussion that you want to work at one of the larger publishers. That may not be the case for you, but it’s what I get asked about the most. — Gail Simone

Even though Freedom Reborn is suffering from some type of problem that has kept it out of actions for over 3 weeks, we here at FRP2 want you all to know that we’re still standing and working on content that should delight the tails off your… tail bone? Eh, failed metaphor aside, we do have some things in the pipeline, so there’s nothing to fret about on our end. We’ll try to keep you up to date about FR, but until then, just look at us as your friendly neighborhood hub of connectivity and information.
Meanwhile, if you absolutely must visit a forum for your FR/FF needs, Tomato has opened a temp forum, which you can access here. Enjoy.
Upcoming FX!

These are the next few FX releases you’ll be seeing sometime soon. I made them two weeks ago and have just now got around to testing and taking pics. I may alter them a bit more, but I’m lazy. I mean, would you really expect me to put in more effort than necessary? Yes? Well… okay. Maybe.
Lack of Updates and World War Hulk

Ahhh, i haven’t updated in some time, but I’ve been seriously busy with real life… and my writing life… and my editing/providing feedback life, so you can imagine that Freedom Force and the blog itself fell down my list of things to actively pay attention to. I’ll try to do better with that in the future, as I’m almost done with a collaboration I took a part in a few months ago. Well, I won’t have to actively write for it anymore, and my role will be reduced to editing, which gives me so much more free time – until I decide to begin the submission process again because I’m not very good at not being busy with something. . I may have to make a series of blog posts dedicated to some of the stuff I’ve learned from this endeavor, how it affected my writing, and how my previous ventures into the realm of team projects aided me with this project.
World War Hulk
Anyway, I do plan to release some stuff soonish, and I hope to convince Avalon and Murs to release skins and tutorials, respectively. Also, I have a post sitting in my queue in regards to JKC’s mod that I’ve yet to release, so if you haven’t given his mod a try, you should go cop that: Batman Family Mod (44 MB). In the pipeline, I hope Podmark sends me that spotlight on whatever it is I asked him to write because that’s slowly slipping out of the recesses of my mind, heh.
In none Freedom Force news, you guys may remember World War Hulk, a marvel event centered around the return of Hulk from space and culminated in a drag out fight in NY between Worldbreaker Hulk and Sentry, and I found this interesting read (if it doesn’t work, try refreshing) about it from the editor Nate Cosby. I implore you all to check it out as it truly is enlightening and lets you know that a lot of work goes into these events we all seem to be tired of. Unfortunately, some of the original notes sound much better than the finished product we ended up with.

Vamp's Winning Design
It is with great pleasure that I announce Vamp as the winner of the contest. A blend of a military uniform and combined with a super hero costume really fits my written concept for the character. So, congrats to him.
I’d also like to thank Naitvalis and John Jr. for participating. They both did an excellent job with their designs and concepts.
I’ve got some more contests in mind with a little variety but I’m going to hold off for the time being.

As you may know, FRPMods went down a few weeks ago, and since that time, I and a few other people have been working away at restoring and backing up stuff for you all to grab at your own leisure. Yes, again, you will be able to grab that content in due time. Be patient, as setting up all that stuff takes a lot of effort. And because I’ve learned it bears repeating: content will be re-available.
Moving along, I’ve done some updating on FRP2 to fix any broken links I came across. This includes some of Conduit’s maps that ended up broken, a bunch of FX, and some mods. In fact, you will also find some newish content on the site if you go searching for it. Why don’t I help you out and give you a list.
Fixed/New Content:
- Along with the pic/link fixes on the FX page, there are now 4 new FX to grab. These fx were done by Conduit a few years back.
- The Crisis and Exiles mods have been moved to the FRP2 mod page.
- The Batman Mod is available again
- Spiderman and The Marvel Knights by C4 is available again.
And there’s more to come. On the Horizon, new skopes and skins will be available, as well as a bunch of new FX. There’s also a chance more FRP1 content will end up here. We’ll see.
UDCU: Where art thou?

As you may, or may not have noticed, the UDCU page is down. It’s because I hate all of you. I’m under valued, under appreciated, and under paid. I demand monies via PayPal! Shower me with flowers and introduce me to your sisters (if they are of age).
All kidding aside, the site will be down while it goes through some maintenance. The urge to continue and finish this project has been itching me for a while. That said, when the site’s up and running again, it’ll have improved content (updated/new skins).
I did want to run a contest on designs for Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter. What do you guys think would be a serviceable prize to the winner of such a contest?

The End of FRPMods?!

Yes, FRPMods, the original site, is now offline. It had a good run, but I truly believe the site died off completely after it was transitioned into the remaining members hands. Updates began to come in slowly, our ranks were thin, we had issues with the site’s host, which led to constant crashing, and modding was at an all time low. It’s unfortunate, but it also led to the creation of its successor… this blog/website hybrid that has seen more life in its one year than FRPMods saw in its last few years. Many thanks to Mike (& the original FRPers), Lude (where you at?), Cmdrkoenig, Beyonder, and even Ow_Tiobe for all the help they gave in keeping the site going as long as long as it did.
Unfortunately, with that site being dead, FXForce and a few links here will also be affected. A few members and myself are working on a backup right now to remedy as many issues as we can. Until that time, keep on checking us out. And if you could, any broken links you find, please report here, or on the Wave, or on Freedom Reborn. Thanks.
The Lack of Updates…

Sorry to say it, guys, but FRP is more or less on a bit of sabbatical. Shh, dry those tears. It’s not because we don’t like providing you guys with awesome content for your amusement, but because we’ve all been a little bit busy with RL (real life) and other personal projects which may or may not be related to Freedom Force. On my end, writing has come into the forefront and FF had slid towards the bottom of my things to contribute towards, but don’t you worry, I might have something coming your way soon. And just to tease a little more, I know my fellow site mate, Cmdrkoenig, will probably be ready to tease some awesome things in the near future. A lot of awesome things… full of awesomeness that’ll make you mansplode all over the place. Oi, that sounded messy… and wrong… *shrugs*. Anyway, that’s the news for now. We hope to be back with some all new features soonish unless, of course, robots begin to rule the world!
