I was a big fan of The Exiles back when it started out and I even sat through some of the stuff I couldn’t stand just to get my fix of some of my favorite characters. I honestly couldn’t wait for Psylocke to join them when I initially heard about it because it meant she’d actually be doing something again other than claiming her “tk could crush mountains”. Then she finally made the move, after several long months, and I ended up disappointed month after ever-loving month thanks to the talent of Claremont. I understand that he’s written some great stories…but honestly, that time has passed. Beyond passed; it died, was buried, and was horribly resurrected everytime Marvel gave him a new project. I thought “Die by the Sword”, “New Excalibur”, and what he did to the remaining original Exiles/Spider-man 2099 was bad…and then I read New Exiles #18. I think that’s one of the worst finales I’ve ever read by Claremont, and in general since…well, it’s been awhile. If Marvel/Joe Q insist on continuously hiring the man because of his past status, then they’re going to have to realize that Claremont, like Loeb and Bendis, are going to need limits, because when they don’t have anything keeping them within certain lines, they go wild and create messes. It’s hard to like something when it no longer makes sense. So I’ll say it, “Claremont…you don’t make sense to me and I’d like you to fix it. Now!”
